Our Vision

The Norfolk Federation of Teachers exists because we believe every child in Norfolk deserves access to a high-quality public education regardless of their ZIP Code, background, or family income. We believe education is the pathway to opportunity: it inspires the future, strengthens our communities, and has the power to break cycles of poverty that have limited too many generations.

At the same time, we believe in the dignity, respect, and economic security of the educators and school staff who make that promise possible every day. No teacher, instructional assistant, counselor, bus driver, custodian, or school employee should have to work multiple jobs simply to live and prosper in the community they serve.

The NFT is unafraid to challenge the status quo when it fails our students or disrespects working people. We believe in justice, and we fight for it through a strong public schools, empowered educators, and a Norfolk where every child and every worker can thrive.
